It's safe to say that we're in the midst of one of the greatest movie seasons that we've seen in a long time...Revolutionary Road, Changeling, Doubt, Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino, Milk, The Wrestler...the list goes on. And yet, I still haven't had time to see many of those films, and for the ones that I have seen and loved, I'm still putting them on the back burner on the "to blog about list", because all I really want to do is talk about My Bloody Valentine (which fate brought us to -- we started out the night wanting to watch Gran Torino at Paseo, ended up changing to see MBV3D at Paseo, only to find out they weren't/aren't showing the film in 3D, switched back to watching a later showing of Gran Torino, and somehow ended up on the opposite side of town at AMC watching MBV in 3D).
I didn't get a chance to see Bolt yet, so this was actually my first full length feature I've seen in 3D, and I'm SO happy it was. Looking back, even if I had watched this entire movie in a regular screening, I still think it would've been awesome and entertaining. But, the 3D really sealed the deal. Some of the effects are so predictable and obvious...but then there are some that really just catch you off guard, the type where you find yourself jolting backwards into your chair. In a nutshell though, with or without the 3D, My Bloody Valentine is a beast of a mindless slasher film. Plenty of exaggerated and unnecessary (okay, necessary) gore, ridiculously awesome kills (that make you mutter, "that's just not right"), boobs, the clumsiest and stupidest protagonists I've ever seen, and hilariousness -- yes, hilariousness. If you have ten dollars to spare, a strong stomach, and a fear of gas masks, this is the movie for you.
